The letter soon turned from a small happening to the biggest event in my life. For a whole hour, while the other monks carried out the church service, I stared at the precise lettering. I thought of all the disrespect and negativity that had been thrown my way in the past few weeks or so, but also of the earlier times when I could listen to chants and dream, when my heart was trapped in a beautiful, restricted place. These latter times though, were long past and currently I was stuck in a monastery where no one would accept me and my ideas at all. When I entered Pomposa’s monastery I swore that I would remain here for life, but since I already had sinned so many countless times I could ask God to forgive me for the better just this time. There was one extremely pious monk; Lidano, who I could consider as a friend and who I might miss, but who would not care at all if I left. I reflected upon my life for hours, long after the church service finished, curled up in the library. My peers passed me and smirked, but I barely noticed them in the midst of my concentration.
